General Dempsey Sticks to His Guns, Repeats That `Iran Is Rational'

Testifying before the Senate Budget Committee Tuesday, U.S. Armed Forces Chief of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey faced some questions motivated by political/military idiocy; nonetheless, he repeated his most critical recent statements concerning Iran as a war trigger.

General Dempsey defended his Feb. 17 comment, much attacked since from British-inspired quarters, that Iran is a rational actor. As reported by The Hill, Dempsey said that he doesn't mistake Iran's rhetoric for a lack of reason, and that even Iran's actions that are unacceptable to the United States fit the country's pattern over the past 30 years. "We can't afford to underestimate our potential adversaries by writing them off as irrational," Dempsey said.

When Dempsey was asked point-blank by Republican Kelly Ayotte of Michigan, "Are you saying that a military option is off the table?", he responded "No" — an accurate statement given the war policy of British puppet Barack Obama.
