Lyndon LaRouche has called on the Members of the United States Senate and House of Representatives to postpone the August recess until some vital tasks are accomplished—tasks that will decide the very fate of this Republic.
The first order of business is the immediate passage of Glass-Steagall.
The second, more challenging order of business is centered on the issue of the U.S. Presidency. President Barack Obama has committed a number of documented high crimes and misdemeanors, rising to the threshold of impeachment:
* President Obama brought the country to war in Libya in flagrant violation of Article I, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution, which gives Congress the exclusive authority to declare war. He flaunted his refusal to take the issue to the Congress and instead signed an Executive Order, claiming that he could ignore Congress to "prevent atrocities," a bogus excuse for launching preventive war.
* President Obama has presided over a weekly meeting to select targets for extrajudicial assassination around the world—including American citizens. A United Nations Special Rapporteur on Extra-Judicial Killing has described the President's actions as war crimes and crimes against humanity that warrant prosecution at the International Court of Justice in the Hague, using the same criterion that led to war crime prosecutions of Slobodan Milosevic and Charles Taylor.
* Obama White House and campaign officials leaked highly sensitive national security secrets, blowing ongoing intelligence programs and jeopardizing the lives of U.S. intelligence officers and assets—in order to boost his poll ratings. Even a leading Senate Democrat, Diane Feinstein, has singled out the Obama White House for the worst security leak in memory.
* President Obama invoked Executive Privilege to cover up his White House and Justice Department involvement in Operation Fast and Furious, a botched covert program that led to large numbers of weapons getting into the hands of Mexican drug cartels, and resulting in the murders of at least two US law enforcement officials. The House of Representatives has already found Attorney General Eric Holder guilty of contempt of Congress for his stonewalling and coverup.
These are only the most recent and egregious of the President's actions that may soon be brought before the Congress in impeachment proceedings.
For precisely those reasons, LaRouche warned: "We're approaching, in fact, the condition in which developments, first in England, on Glass-Steagall, and secondly an outburst, including from Sandy Weill, here in the United States, have now made it clear that the security of the United States can no longer tolerate a continuation of the present kinds of policy under this administration! And therefore, it is necessary that we postpone these vacations, in order to get at this issue, because, obviously, if the facts, as shown are true, and they can be shown to be true, then this President has to be thrown out of office, for the sake of the future existence of the United States!
"But that case has to be proven! We can not throw people out of the Presidency, simply on impulse, on emotion. We have to test the question, adequately, to satisfy everybody who's reasonable, that it was necessary to throw the bum out. It may take the form simply of suspending him, in some way or other, by proceedings, that is impeachment process, but we will have to have a new candidate for Democratic nominee for President, in the coming weeks.
"Now, it may be Joe Blow or something like that, but anybody who is honest, and can be a President by virtue of honesty, and some degree of intelligence, also, added in, we would hope, that you don't need to have a great hero as President coming in. You need to have a figure who is competent, who can be trusted, who has a certain degree of recognition, as a reasonable candidate, and it could be somebody from the Congress, it can be someone from the Senate, but someone who's qualified to fill in for one term of office, at least, as President of the United States, during this emergency. And that's the only way we can do this.
"Is to get this issue out, and you have to say that! But don't wait until the proof is delivered! Present the proof which people don't have yet, which you know. And the fact that you know something, makes that your responsibility to tell it! So we have the responsibility of telling it, and that means, going to work to convince people that that is the truth! And this requires some discussion!
"And it certainly is worth a couple of weeks of further discussion: In preparation for Sept. 3rd. By Sept. 3rd, we should know whether we want this President or not! But we have to have a fair shake at it.
"So therefore, if you're serious about the United States, then you're going to come to the meetings of the Congress, in an additional couple of weeks, or more if necessary. And the only way to present that, is present it exactly that way: Have you got the honesty and guts, and patience, to see what the next candidate for President of the United States should be?
"And if you're not going to do that, if you think you're opposed to that, you're a damned fool, and you ought to resign from office anyway, because you're a drag on the whole nation.
"It's a time for telling the truth, not for making acceptable protocols."
