A dramatic change in the world was reflected in the decision reached by the U.S. House of Representatives, at the end of last week, to vote against a motion to adjourn. Despite a myriad of reasons given for the vote, reality is that a majority of the House now realizes that we are in the middle of a profound global breakdown crisis, and heading for war -- and this would be a terrible time to leave their posts.
This realization has been shaped by the aggressive deployment of my colleagues at LPAC, who carried out a two week blitz to bring the reality of the crisis to members of Congress. LPAC has been at the center of a global drive to address the financial breakdown by adopting a three-part program to reverse the collapse: that is, the immediate reinstatement of Glass-Steagall to halt the economic chain-reaction collapse, a national banking system to supply credit for the needs of the physical economy, and the production of the large-scale NAWAPA water-transfer project to create 6 million high-level productive jobs.
Rachel Brown, member of the LaRouche national candidates slate, released the following statement to demand congress return to session:
My mobilization, and the growing recognition among a circle of financial interests in the City of London that the Euro-system is beyond repair, triggered this public acknowledgement that Glass-Steagall is now absolutely necessary. This coincided with public revelations of criminal activities by top-level officials at Wall St. and the City of London, such as the rigging of the LIBOR rate which resulted in billions of dollars stolen from public and private investments, and the laundering of drug money, as seen in the case of HSBC, used to fill their balance sheets!
As my associates at LaRouche PAC were blitzing the Congress, and my fellow LaRouche Slate Congressional candidates were giving the option of the Glass-Steagall package to voters tired of the failure in Washington to address the crisis, the stunning reversal of Citigroup's Sandy Weill, the mea culpas of media outlets such as the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Der Spiegel, and many others, rippled through the halls and hearing rooms of Congress, adding fuel towards a full reversal of the last decades' failed policies.
But it is not enough that they did not technically recess. Congress must now be told, to return to Washington, and carry through the necessary actions, by signing the Glass-Steagall bill, H.R. 1489, into law! The devastation has gone on for long enough, and has reached the point of collapse in many aspects of our real economy, including in such life-sustaining areas as food production, basic employment, police and fire availability, and many others. The return to Glass-Steagall is not just a financial regulation-- it is a stop-collapse measure to halt this breakdown process.
The current trajectory of our nation and planet-- unless intervened on by this higher principle, as continually fought for by Lyndon LaRouche and my campaign-- is for war, dictatorship, and chaos, as seen in the heightened push for war in Syria and Iran. Glass-Steagall would free us from that dangerous road as well, by putting the planet back on a trajectory towards economic development and collaboration.
Civilization hangs on this decision! We must decide to clean up of the mess of the past, so we can begin to build a future. My campaign championed the fight for Glass-Steagall, and will continue to do so, until it is passed. Tell Congress, don't give up on this now! Get back to Washington, pass Glass-Steagall and restore the American System!
