Obama's State Dept. Lectures Russia To Be "Open-Minded" About Missile Defense War Provocation

State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland yesterday used the opportunity of welcoming Russian President Putin's openness to new reductions in nuclear arms, to lecture Russia's leaders that they should just get over their virulent opposition to the missile defense system that Obama and the British are setting in place, and which the Russians view as a threat to their existence.

"We are interested in continuing arms control talks going forward," Nuland stated. "That said, we reject any linkage with missile defense... We'll continue to encourage Russia to be more open-minded about missile defense cooperation."

Nuland also reported that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Vladivostock during her Sept. 8-9 stop in Russia, on the occasion of the APEC summit.
