In his Saturday radio address, President Obama vowed to track down those responsible for the Benghazi attack, while AP reported that the U.S. Navy is moving two warships to positions off the coast of Libya, while more spies, Marines, and drones are being sent to that country. So Nero will be up nights, satisfying his killer lust and deciding whom to kill next.
Also adding to the escalating military showdown throughout the region, the scheduled 12-day, 25-nation military exercise in the Strait of Hormuz began on Sept. 15. The Daily Telegraph reported the news under the headline "Armada of British naval power massing in the Gulf as Israel prepares an Iran strike." The largest-ever maneuvers in the region will practice breaching an Iranian blockade of the strait; counter-mining drills; and destroying Iranian combat jets, ships, and coastal missile batteries. The exercise includes three U.S. Nimitz class carrier groups, 12 battleships, including ballistic missile cruisers, frigates, destroyers, and assault ships carrying thousands of U.S. Marines and special forces.
The British are also there in force. British Defense Secretary Philip Hammond announced they "are determined to work as part of the international community effort to ensure freedom of passage in the international waters of the Strait of Hormuz." The Telegraph article also quoted an unnamed British defense source saying: "If it came to war, there would be carnage. The Iranian casualties would be huge but they would be able to inflict severe blows against the U.S. and British. The Iranian Republican Guard are well versed in asymmetrical warfare and would use swarm attacks to sink or seriously damage ships. This is a conflict nobody wants, but the rhetoric from Israel is unrelenting."
There is an element of truth to that, Lyndon LaRouche commented, unless of course it escalates to thermonuclear war. That is the actual question.
