It's Monday February 25th 2013; My name is Dennis Mason. This is your daily podcast from LaRouchepac.com.

So I have here a statement by Kesha Rogers of the Policy Committee, which we'll be producing as a leaflet for distribution and organizing, that she published over the weekend:

Kesha Rogers: Death From the Skies, or Strategic Defense of Earth?

The surprise explosion of the asteroid over Chelyabinsk, Russia on February 15, 2013, while all eyes were focused on the simultaneous flyby of asteroid 2012 DA14, is a clear warning to all thinking patriots: President Obama's destruction of NASA's capabilities to defend Earth from such space-based threats leaves the nation exposed to the extinction threat such asteroids represent. It's no coincidence that the same president who wantonly kills Americans with drones and declares criminal banks "too big to jail" also has no policy to prevent the destruction of human life from asteroids. The universe has given us a warning to fully unleash NASA, while we still can.

The asteroid that impacted over Russia was about 17 meters in diameter, and traveling at approximately 40,000 mph it exploded with as much energy as 500 kilotons of TNT, 30 times more than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima. Over 1,000 people were injured, but lucky no one was killed. If this asteroid had been just a little bigger it would have been a tragedy, rather than a warning. Asteroids the size of 2012 DA14, about twice the diameter of the one that hit Russia, would explode with energy levels approaching the larges thermonuclear warheads ever built, and could flatten any city. Although NASA has been tasked by Congress since 2005 to discover and map 90% of potentially hazardous asteroids greater than 140 meters in diameter, they have not been given the funding and resources they need to accomplish this task, and they are not even being told to find the smaller asteroids.

Beyond simply finding these asteroids, we still have no program to stop one from hitting the Earth. This is not the fault of NASA, this is the result of decades of bad policies, and the presidency of Obama has made the situation even much worse, by systematically gutting the heart of NASA, the manned space program. Under Obama, the United States will never be able to truly defend the Earth from these threats. Current estimates are that less than 0.1% of asteroids these sizes have been found, which means that another could crash with a thermonuclear force anywhere on Earth, without warning. An impact in a major city would kill hundreds of thousands, and possibly disrupt the entire world economy. It could happen tomorrow, it could happen 10 years from now, but as every space scientist will tell you, this is not a question of if it will happen, but when.

While such population reduction is in league with the bankrupt financier oligarchy whom Obama patriotically serves, there are rational policies to be adopted by the non-insane, in the Strategic Defense of Earth. March 23, 2013 marks the 30th anniversary of President Reagan adopting Lyndon LaRouche's science driver program for the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI). Had this array of defensive laser beam satellite systems, in coordination with a robust manned space exploration program, been followed through, not only would nuclear war be obsolete, but the world would likely have been able to prevent this asteroid from ever hitting Russia. In the fall of 2011, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin proposed that the United States cooperate with Russia in developing a system to defend the Earth from these asteroid and comet threats. Following the impact over Russia on Friday, an entire array of Russian officials have echoed this proposal for a joint U.S.-Russia planetary defense program. The White House remains silent, with no response to these proposals, and, as of this writing, not even any response or recognition that an asteroid just struck the Earth. Such obviously indispensable programs will not happen until we throw Obama out of office.

With Obama out of the way, a space-oriented international effort in the defense of Earth can play a crucial part of an recovery program for the planet. This will require that we end the hyperinflationary bailouts by restoring the Glass-Steagall protections of commercial banks, and reclaim our Constitutional sovereignty over the power to issue regulated federal credit funding such programs. Under this new economic approach, programs like NAWAPA, and the unleashing of NASA for both defense and exploration, will be the drivers of an economic revival of the type this nation hasn't seen since the time of FDR. This is your prerogative as a patriot of your nation and humanity.

So, that's from Kesha, and as I said, that will be available for you as an organizing leaflet in the 'organize' section of the website. And I'll add here that an SDI/SDE program, with the United States and Russia in collaboration, would do more than set us on the proper course in defending the planet as a whole from potential dangers from space. It would also set us on a course to end the threat of a generalized war. Think about it for a moment: how do you achieve a lasting peace? Look at today's triggers for a world war 3, the talk of dangers from Iran, from North Korea, the demand that Assad relinquish his post as the leader of Syria at the insistence of the trans-Atlantic.

For example, it was reported over the weekend in London's Daily Telegraph that the U.S. and British armed forces are rehearsing scenarios and developing plans to seize Syria's chemical weapons arsenal and/or North Korea's nuclear arsenal in the event of regime collapse in either or both of those countries. Pakistan is also on the radar screen as is Iran, even though Iran doesn't actually have a nuclear arsenal.

They reported that something called the Strategic Working Group, composed of senior officers from the U.S., Britain, and Australia, practiced these scenarios last week, during a classified wargame at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, called Unified Quest 2013, and a Royal Air Force (RAF) regiment called the Defence Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear Wing, has already been notified that it should be prepared to work alongside SAS units in securing chemical weapons sites in Syria on short notice. A source involved with the Fort Leavenworth wargames was quoted saying: "We need to have plans in place so that we can properly prepare our soldiers for this job. It's a dangerous and messy business." They continued: "Soldiers will be driving into potentially contaminated areas, possibly under fire while handling hazardous material."

The Telegraph reports that one impetus behind these developments is the large volume of weapons that entered the illegal arms markets after the fall of Libya's Muammar Qaddafi in 2011, and this has increased concerns that chemical, biological, and even nuclear weapons could fall into the wrong hands. Of course, in one sense, this is laughable, in that the U.S. occupation of Iraq should have already taught the lesson of what happens to arms depots when the regime collapses, but that lesson was completely ignored-- or perhaps willfully overlooked-- by the Obama Administration in its rush to overthrow Qaddafi. The problem isn't weapons of mass destruction. It's Obama's alliance with Al Qaeda to overthrow regimes it doesn't like. The problem is Barack Obama's allegiance to the dying British-Saudi empire.

On the flow of weapons:

Syrian rebels are being supplied with new heavy weapons they have not been given before, because they have not been able to defeat Assad's forces. Anti-tank M-79 weapons and M-60 recoilless rifles are flowing across borders near the Syrian capital Damascus in the south, reportedly the Jordanian border (which Jordan denies) and across Syria's Daraa province.

The Washington Post article titled "Strong Arming," by Liz Sly and Karen DeYoung, claims that the heavy weaponry is being supplied to "moderate" anti-Assad groups in the south, because those supporting the rebels' attempts to oust Assad have "grown increasingly alarmed at the soaring influence of Islamists over the fragmented movement." This would mean the security coordination committee formed by U.S. and its major European allies, along with Turkey, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. It is the Saudis and Qataris who are most directly involved in supplying the weaponry-- keep in mind that in Qatar, the Syrian embassy was handed over to the rebels.

Who do they think they're kidding? While the Obama Administration insists that it does not directly arm the jihadis, it is well known that al-Nusra and other al-Qaeda groups are hegemonic among the military opposition to Assad. In fact, Executive Intelligence Review has been told that the Obama Administration has recently received a secret intelligence finding which explicitly debunks the idea that the U.S. can control who gets the weapons, and emphasizes that it is the jihadis who run the military show.

These al-Qaeda-linked forces are now demanding anti-aircraft weapons.

On ABC-TV's "This Week" on Sunday, ABC reporter Terry Moran-- who had just returned from Syria-- reported that the situation was going from worse, to impossibly worse--a total sectarian war, but "There is no sign Assad or his military will crack; on the contrary, we talked to many people who said that earlier in the revolution they wanted the government out. Now, with the chaos, they don't. It looks like Assad has to play a part in the solution, at least initially."

Now, look at Afghanistan where, as the Obama administration seeks to try to disentangle itself from the mess that the Blair-Bush crew sent the United States into, the situation is getting increasingly murderous and chaotic. On Sunday alone, Taliban attacks, including three separate suicide bombings, killed at least 7 people, including in the capital city of Kabul. There is no safe haven in the country.

At the same time, the Obama Administration drone policy--as in Pakistan--has increasingly alienated the Afghan people and their government. One reflection of this fact is the unexpected announcement by President Karzai, that he is banning elite American forces from operating in a province neighboring Kabul, on the charge that Afghans working for those forces, the Special Forces, have been killing and torturing villagers in the area.

Afghan government spokesmen said that they announced the decision after failing to get answers from the U.S. Special Forces. If nothing is done to change the situation, the ban is supposed to go into effect in two weeks.

To return to the point: step back and look at the totality of the situation. How do you begin to forge a lasting peace? By moderating weapons flows to this, that, or the other militia? By changing the leadership structure of this or that nation? Sanctions?

The beauty of the policy of SDI and SDE, is that it creates a working platform by which to change the paradigm altogether. It places the common aims of mankind at the front, not only in conception, but in actionable policy. There is no regional solution which will guarantee peace, and there was never intended to be: look back at the history of how WWI came about, look at the doctrine of Sykes-Picot, look at the metamorphosis of empire from the time of the Greeks with the cult of Apollo at Delphi up through today, and you can know that the framework-- the paradigm-- in which the crisis of today is being addressed offers no other outcome than a continued dynamic of oligarchic rule-- this will guarantee the ultimate extinction of the human species.

The opportunity offered by SDI and SDE, is to work on a national basis, towards the good of mankind as a whole. The Peace of Westphalia with a mission. And that is a new capability for mankind: sovereign nations working together to defend us all. We begin to operate from this policy, the United States and Russia, bringing other nations in, and these other problems almost solve themselves-- I think that the way Mr. LaRouche addressed Jason Ross' question during the Friday webcast, on the absolute crisis in food, applies as equally to the threat of the outbreak of general war. That's archived on the site, and I've linked the url to that question specifically in the transcript of this broadcast. The empire is the weakest that it's ever been, and, if we keep up the fight, we can be rid of it for good.

I'll just add that your organizing on Glass-Steagall is eminently important, we've been getting your letters and whatnot to the Congress, and keep 'em coming. We've got to keep the pressure on-- the most effective weapon in the short-term, and the thing most feared by this trans-Atlantic, British/Saudi empire, is the restoration of the Glass-Steagall standard: your active participation is crucial in making that happen.
